Behind Closed Doors
I came back from my genting trip and I switched on the telly to catch up on my favourite shows. I love smartTV :D Recently I've been addicted to a local show, Ok Not tong xin Yuan alright, it's behind closed doors.

Wondering what's this show about? Here's a brief summary. :)

Behind Closed Doors is a docu-drama that will bring forth … SECRETS, LIES, SHAME!

These are the main thrust of the stories brought into your living rooms in Behind Closed Doors. The stories are focused on domestic issues that people do not want to discuss openly because they bring with them the element of shame.

For the families affected, the feeling is ‘it’s best not to talk about it’ or they retreat into denial ‘no, this isn’t happening in my family’.

Host and eloquent presenter Vernetta Lopez will bring across the various topics to viewers in a narrative and conversational manner; through an in-camera chat segment she will entice participants to wash their “dirty linen” freely, share how they dealt with the aftermath following the exposition of their ‘secrets’.

To add credibility and weight to the show, experts in the related topics; and a celebrity or two who might have strong views on the subject being discussed would be invited to participate in the in-camera chat.

The previous episode was about abusive partners. But this week, the topic was on Homosexuality, something really real and surreal to me. Hahahaha. But it's was focusing on Transexuals this time. Here's the episodic synopsis:

Imagine the wife and daughter’s shock when the man they’d always known as the husband and father one day confesses he wants to be a woman. That’s what happened in one of the cases to be profiled in this episode of “Behind Closed Doors”.

And in the other, the woman’s shock on her wedding night, when she discovered the man she married was a woman eight years earlier!

Transsexuals are not homosexual, and neither are they hermaphrodites (people with both sexual organs). They suffer from a psychiatric illness called GID, Gender Identity Disorder. This is entirely a mental illness, in which they feel they should be members of the opposite sex.

They are people trapped in the wrong bodies but who had undergone Sex Reassignment Surgery or SRS. Often, prior to the operation, many would hide their inclinations from others for fear of embarrassment. And for some, this fear continues even after sex change and they prefer not to disclose what they were before.

Chat guests include Jolene, a married man and father who underwent Sex Change to become a woman, Thomas, a woman who is now a happily married man and Professor Tsoi Wing Foo, a Psychiatrist who had counseled many Transsexuals before and after their operations.

Celebrity Abigail Chay also joins in the chat as well as Leslie Lung, a man who nearly became a woman but stopped himself two days before the Sex Change Operation. He shares why he didn’t go through with it and his resolve to continue living his life as a man.

To me, I think I would tell my partner that I'm transexual especially before marriage. It would be too hard to take especially if you have been suppressing those feelings and only decide to go ahead with the sex change after being married. Why I do I say it's only right to say so?

Well, One of the stories featured , was about this man, who got married and had a kid with his wife. Gradually he took female hormonal pills, and his wife observed his gradual change. All she could do was just watch her husband transform into a woman, and living in denial. When he couldn't take it anymore, he told his wife the truth. It was so hard for the woman to see her husband transform into a man. How would her boyfriend, her husband gradually transform into a woman. She had to go through counseling and professional her to go through with this ordeal.

I researched a little on the few experts that were on the show, and I'm sure you guys are familiar with this lady, called Abigail Chay. She is one of Singapore's only Transexual Celebrity I know. Apparently she has a life story to tell and I am curently watching it on youtube. Here's the link to the video.

It's really sad to see how gays and lesbians suppress their inner feelings when it comes to their sexuality. And also how they are being bullied in the real world. These people aren't freaks, they are just different.

Leslie Lung was one of the experts that appeared on the show, and he is the executive director of this company called Liberty league. Their main goal is to understand and help those who are facing problems with coming to terms about their own sexuality. It's really a bold and daring move to come out of the "closet" and face the world with your true identity. They have training groups and sessions to help many homosexuals out there. Leslie was close to having a sex operation, and hesitated when he knew it was an irreversible act, not only that, a particular verse kept going through his mind, and that was

I guess as long as you are comfortable with your own body and you know that is what you want to do, if you are planning on the sex change, it's fine. People who truly love you, love you for who you are not and not what genitals you have. But honesty is the best policy. If you love someone, tell the person that you've gone through a major operation and pray that the person loves you enough to accept that truth. Keep it that way and you would find someone that truly loves you. Well as for homosexuals, we rock. Ok I'm just joking! To me, do whatever makes you happy, that's all I can say. :)

Be true to yourself, aye?
